Quality Risk and Criticality in GSS Procurement
Qfactorial was engaged to develop a strategic framework for embedding risk-based quality management into transactional procurement activity carried out in a remote (India), global shared services (GSS) function.
Following a workshop and one-to-one consultations with senior stakeholders, an approach was established using critical to quality (CtQ) characteristics to calculate risk ratings and derive the appropriate quality levels for material and equipment requisitions. The quality levels were linked to inspection, certification and quality assurance requirements.
A guideline document was prepared to describe the framework and supporting tools, including: process overview, RACI, risk matrix, quality level calculator, requirement tables, standard quality questions for supplier selection and standard quality clauses for purchase orders. We also provided a template to be used in preparing the inspection and certification matrix for each type of material or equipment.
