Success Stories

Guildmore Construction

Guildmore Construction provides design and build services for customers in the residential sector in the London area. From its head office in Bromley, the company manages multiple construction sites from demolition and clearance, through design, procurement, construction, handover and after sales care.

With outdated, non-UKAS ISO approvals proving worthless when tested by clients and auditors, the company had realised that UKAS-accredited certification would be essential to support its strategy for growth and to secure its reputation. QFactorial were selected to work with the leadership team and develop a brand new and value-adding Business Management System (BMS).

Implementation

We worked with the leadership team to establish the strategic business inputs for the BMS, including an innovative quality policy statement based on the concept of quality as an investment. Following analysis of business context, stakeholders and compliance requirements, a set of objectives and metrics was developed to monitor performance of the BMS. A one-page framework diagram was used to communicate the big picture – what the system looks like – with the key business processes embedded within. From this springboard, a BMS Manual was developed, absorbing pre-existing tools and documents where appropriate. As we were developing the BMS, the company was re-organising and growing in front of us. Some nifty and dynamic change management was required. Our claims of flexibility and agility were seriously tested on this project!

Sometimes it pays to throw out the old and start again. Especially if the old system was never really aligned with, or owned by, the company. This is what happens when a template solution is applied to a unique and growing business. When it comes to quality systems and consultants, you really do get what you pay for.

The Outcome

Some very positive comments from the external auditors confirmed that the BMS developed with Guildmore was not only aligned with the company’s strategy and ambitions, but also "an excellent system, one of the simplest and best approaches we have seen."

Q! Feedback

"We needed a consultant to help us to upgrade our management systems for UKAS-accredited ISO certification. Of those we contacted, QFactorial seemed to best understand our particular needs as a small, fast-growing, fast-changing construction business. Initially we were just focused on quality and ISO 9001, but QFactorial steered us towards a more integrated and business-focused approach. Building on existing processes, and aligning with ongoing initiatives, we worked together to develop a business management system (BMS) that would satisfy ISO 9001: 2015 and be ready for future integration of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.

We passed both stages of the ISO 9001 audit with zero nonconformities. More importantly, the BMS is a true reflection of how we work and a solid foundation for business growth. They were on hand for continuous advice and were very accepting of our continuous changes  and demands as the company rapidly expanded during the process.

We have now engaged QFactorial for the next stage of development of our BMS as we progress towards ISO 45001 certification. We are pleased to be continuing the partnership as we work towards the next milestone."
