ISO 9001 is a formal international standard requiring independent certification by a UKAS-accredited body. A Basic Management System is built to the same principles but proportionate to a start-up and without the certification audit. It is designed to evolve into ISO 9001 or other relevant certifications as the business grows and the commercial case for formal certification develops.
For most early-stage businesses we can have a working system in place within four to eight weeks. The pace depends on how much existing material we have to work with and how quickly your team can engage with the process.
Usually when the commercial pressure arrives, i.e. a customer requirement, a tender condition or a decision to pursue a new market. By that point your Basic Management System gives you a significant head start. We will tell you what additional work is needed and what the certification process will actually involve.
