ESG & Sustainability

Sustainability that stands up to scrutiny.

We help businesses build sustainability strategies that work in practice, not just on paper. From working out what matters to your stakeholders, to picking the right path and seeing it through, we do the whole job. We have been through it ourselves (B Corp certified with a score of 96.9) so when we say we know what it takes, we mean it.

Want sustainability that actually does something?

Sound familiar?

Not sure where to start with sustainability?

There are dozens of sustainability schemes, standards and frameworks and no obvious way to know which ones will make the most commercial or operational difference.

We evaluate the landscape against your business context and stakeholder expectations. From there we identify the credentials that will make the biggest commercial and operational difference.

A customer or investor has asked for evidence of your sustainability performance?

You are under increasing pressure to demonstrate credible sustainability qualifications to customers, supply chain partners or investors.

We build the systems, data and documentation you need to respond to those requests confidently and convincingly.

You have sustainability activity underway but it is not joined up?

Different parts of the business are doing sustainability-related things but there is no coherent strategy connecting them.

We develop a sustainability strategy that brings existing activity together and gives it direction and measurable targets.

But we’re only small. Is sustainability stuff even relevant to us?

A lot of SMEs assume sustainability is for big corporates with dedicated ESG teams and deep pockets. Nope. In fact, smaller businesses are often better placed to make meaningful changes quickly and the commercial pressure from customers, investors and supply chains is coming regardless of your size.

We help work out what is proportionate, practical and worthwhile for a business at your stage.

How can we really make a difference as an SME though?

It is a fair question and one we respect more than the ones that don’t ask it. But SMEs collectively represent 99% of businesses in the UK. Their impact adds up. More immediately, the right sustainability strategy makes your business more resilient, more attractive to customers and better positioned for growth.

We’ll help show you where your efforts will have the most impact, commercially and environmentally, without overcomplicating it.

Problem solved!

A sustainability strategy built around your business, backed by the right frameworks and supported through implementation. Something that adds real value, not just something to put on your website.

Mini FAQs

We start by understanding your business context, your stakeholder expectations and what is driving the need for a strategy; whether that is a customer requirement, an investor expectation or a commitment to improving your sustainability performance. From there we identify the right path, build a realistic roadmap and support you through any assessment or certification process. The pace and scope are adapted to what the business can absorb.
That depends on the strategy you pursue. For schemes like B Corp or ISO 14001 you get a formal credential recognised by your stakeholders. For scoring-based schemes like EcoVadis you get a rating and a scorecard. In all cases you also get a sustainability strategy and evidence base that continues to add value beyond the initial assessment.
More than you might think. SMEs make up over 99% of UK businesses. Collectively the impact is enormous. Individually, the right sustainability strategy makes your business more resilient, more attractive to the customers and investors who increasingly care about this and better placed for long-term growth. We help you focus where it matters rather than spreading effort thinly across things that sound good but change little.
ISO 14001 is a strong foundation, but it focuses on environmental management systems rather than broader ESG performance. Whether you need more depends on your stakeholder expectations and commercial goals. B Corp, EcoVadis and ISO 26000 each address dimensions that ISO 14001 does not (i.e., social responsibility, supply chain performance and governance in particular).
It varies significantly by scheme. ISO 14001 typically takes six to twelve months from a standing start. B Corp can take a year, depending on your starting position and the pace of improvement work needed. EcoVadis ratings are issued within a few weeks of submitting your response, though building the evidence base to achieve a strong rating takes longer. We give you a realistic picture at the outset so there are no surprises. If you just need a way ahead and a simple starting roadmap, well, you’re looking at a much quicker turnaround.
Short answer: no. Long answer: the regulatory direction of travel, the shift in investor expectations and the growing pressure from large corporates on their supply chains are all structural changes, not trends. The businesses that treat sustainability as a passing phase are the ones who will be scrambling to catch up in five years. We are not interested in helping clients chase fads either, we focus on the things that will improve your business and hold up over time.
